Platelet Rich Plasma Procedure for Treating Elbow and Knee Injuries

upper extremity sports medicinePRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a procedure that involves taking a small sample of blood from a patient, processing the blood to target a specific density, and injecting that blood back into the patient at the site of an injury. The processed blood is rich in platelets and growth factors that aid in the healing process. PRP has been used with success in treating knee and elbow injuries in professional athletes, particularly for partial tears of the ulnar collateral ligament, or UCL (Tommy John ligament).
